Sea vs Desert combines two different styles of weaving. The modern style has lots of textures and colours representing water and beautiful sunset colours on the western coast of Saudi Arabia, as seen on the bottom. The second style focuses on patterns of traditional weaving style (Sadu), which reflects the desert environment and cultural identity of Saudi Arabia as seen on top.
Artist's Bio
Rotana Qutub is a Saudi artist from Jeddah with a BA in Art and a minor in Graphic Design from Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan. She founded Nasija by Rotana, where she creates sustainable fibre art by spinning naturally dyed wool. Her work blends traditional Saudi Sadu patterns with modern weaving techniques, often incorporating punch needle, embroidery, and macramé. With over five years of experience, she has crafted unique projects for individuals and companies alike.
