One-on-One Professional Tufting Masterclass - Artist-Led Training with Asad Azizi

This one-on-one professional tufting masterclass is led by Asad, a textile artist, professional tufter, and curator of the Textile Hub at World Art Dubai.

This is not an introductory or recreational workshop.

It is an artist-led training program designed for individuals who want to develop a serious tufting practice - whether for artistic production, exhibitions, or professional application.

Across six intensive days, participants are guided through the complete tufting process, with a strong emphasis on decision-making, material understanding, surface control, and finishing quality.

Beyond learning techniques, this masterclass focuses on how tufted works are developed, refined, and resolved at a professional standard.

The training is conducted in a studio environment, with direct, continuous guidance from the artist.

Questions, discussion, and critical thinking are encouraged throughout.

Each session adapts to the participant’s pace, level, and creative direction.

By the end of the masterclass, participants leave not only with a finished tufted piece but with a deeper understanding of tufting as a contemporary textile art practice, and the confidence to continue independently.

Post-workshop support is included, allowing participants to stay connected for guidance as they continue developing their work.

Participants also receive priority invitations to selected exhibitions, events, and platforms such as World Art Dubai and Dubai Design Week.

In this masterclass, you will learn the following:

• How to set up a professional tufting workspace
• How to assemble and prepare a tufting frame
• How to work with primary tufting fabric and understand fabric behaviour
• How to use Procreate for design development
• How to transfer designs onto fabric (freestyle and projector methods)
• Yarn types, materials, and their behaviour in tufting
• Colour selection and composition for textile surfaces
• An overview of professional tufting tools and equipment
• Safe use and maintenance of tufting machines (cut pile, loop pile, variable pile heights)
• Techniques for texture, depth, and surface variation
• Working with secondary backing fabrics
• Finishing methods: trimming, cutting, glueing, and final presentation
• Troubleshooting, including a dedicated 30-minute Q&A session
